Getting to the ocean
The east-side canals feed Lake Santa Barbara and the Intracoastal, and the primary nearby ocean gateway is Hillsboro Inlet to the north. Heading south, the Intracoastal connects directly into Fort Lauderdale and Port Everglades.
The bridge question, honestly
This is the good news market. No fixed span has been identified across the main Intracoastal route to Hillsboro Inlet for the principal east-side area. The controlling structures are drawbridges, not permanent ceilings.
The NE 14th Street bridge is an opening drawbridge, and federal rules provide openings on the quarter-hour and the three-quarter-hour. The Atlantic Boulevard bridge is another Intracoastal drawbridge that affects north and south routing depending on where you are.
Here is the part I want you to hear clearly, because it gets marketed badly: do not treat a Pompano property as “no bridges” simply because it has no fixed bridge. Opening bridges still add passage time to every single trip, and interior fixed bridges can still restrict individual canal addresses. Your route has to be checked property by property.

Dock and lift rules that actually affect you
Pompano’s code is specific, and it changes what you can build:
- A fixed or floating dock may extend into a canal, river, basin or waterway only 10 percent of the waterway width or 8 feet, whichever is less.
- A boat lift fully raised may extend 20 percent of the width or 20 feet, whichever is less.
Those two rules decide your usable fairway and your clearance from the dock across the canal. They are worth reading before you fall in love with a vessel that needs more room than the canal legally allows.
Even with no HOA, city engineering rules still regulate docks, lifts and encroachment. Pompano requires engineered dock, seawall and lift submissions with signed and sealed drawings.

Depth
There is no reliable area-wide mean low water number here. Lake Santa Barbara and the finger canals are not all maintained to the federal Intracoastal depth, and no city source supports one universal dockside profile. If you are bringing a deep-draft boat, current soundings for the exact canal and dock are a due-diligence item, not a nicety.

Marinas and fuel
- Sands Harbor Resort and Marina, directly on the Pompano waterfront, advertising full-service dockage for vessels up to 120 feet, with a fuel dock carrying gasoline and diesel plus fishing supplies.
- Loggerhead / Hidden Harbour Marina, with wet slips, dry storage and pump-out.
Long-term slip contracts at Sands Harbor are confirmed as monthly and annual, but the rate is not published. Get a written rate sheet rather than trusting a number off a directory.
Ramps, beach and pier
- Alsdorf Park, 2901 NE 14th Street, is the clearest major public motorboat and jet-ski launch, sitting on the Intracoastal with fishing, a boat dock, restrooms, playground and picnic facilities.
- Lake Santa Barbara Park, 2290 SE 7th Street, is a very small public waterfront park with benches. Good to know it exists, but it is not a launch.
- The city operates a municipal ocean beach 365 days a year with lifeguards and restrooms, and the Fisher Family Pier anchors the public beach district, extending nearly 900 feet into the Atlantic.
The Fourth of July celebration is staged at the oceanfront and Fisher Family Pier area and includes the waterfront fireworks program.
Diving and wrecks
This is where East Pompano separates itself. Shipwreck Park is a nonprofit devoted to underwater conservation parks and artificial reefs, and it gives Pompano the strongest named artificial-wreck identity of the three markets I work. The park includes the Lady Luck, a former cargo and sludge tanker listed at 324 feet long, and the Okinawa.
If you dive, this matters as much as the dock does. Refresh coordinates from the current FWC and Broward reef files immediately before you navigate, since positions and condition change.
One current caution
A phased seawall, promenade and public-dock project at Roy Rogers and Wahoo Bay has been underway, with water-taxi and pier access affected in phases and completion targeted for January 2027. Check the current phase before you plan on docking somewhere specific.
Flood
Oceanfront and canal properties map differently, and wave-exposed parcels behave differently from canal parcels. There is no blanket rule here.
